VEACH HEADS BACK TO INDIANAPOLIS FOR FIRESTONE FREEDOM 100

18-Year-Old Zach Veach Hopes Fastest Time From Practice Transitions Over To Qualifications, Race

INDIANAPOLIS (MAY 21, 2013)- Andretti Autosport's Zach Veach heads into the Firestone Freedom 100 race after leading the opening day of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Firestone Indy Lights earlier this month. The ESPN The Magazine-named NEXT in motorsports Veach, with sponsor K12 in tow, will be making his first race start at the legendary 2.5-mile oval on Coors Light Carb Day.

"Racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has always been a dream of mine," . Preparing for my very first race at the speedway is something I'll always cherish. I've watched so many races there over the years, it's hard to believe I'm going to be in one of them this year! I'm feeling very confident going into this weekend after a successful test a few weeks ago. After a bit of bad luck at Long Beach, the K12 Andretti Autosport crew and I are looking to finally fight for our first Firestone Indy Lights win; what place better to do it at than Indianapolis. This weekend, I get to check another dream off my list. It wouldn't be possible without the support from K12, The Young Marines, ADS IT Solutions, Zakosi Data Backup, Replay XD, OMP, Bell Helmets, Got Chocolate Milk?, and Art Rotondo. Thank you all for your support."

Veach, of Stockdale, OH., entered his fourth season with Andretti Autosport in 2013 while also mirroring that with his fourth season in the Mazda Road to Indy developmental ladder system. When Veach was announced for Firestone Indy Lights, he became the first driver to advance through the entire system, after previously competing in USF2000 and Star Mazda (now Pro Mazda).

The 18-year-old, Veach hopes his strong test at IMS, where he was the only driver to run over 190 mph and finish P1 on the speed charts, will come in handy when practice resumes on Thurs., May 23 at the Brickyard. His strong presence back on an oval is a homecoming for Veach, who has long stated that his love sits with ovals versus road and street races.

His 2013 season has gotten off to a rough start. During the first three races of the season, all of which were road and street races, Veach's best finish was fifth (St. Pete), while his best start (Long Beach) has been third. He currently sits eighth in series points.

Veach's early May 2013 oval test at IMS was a spitting image of his first ever test at the facility. In late 2012, he set an unofficial new track record in Lights while testing on the road course, turning in the best time during the two-day session. With testing in the books, Veach will have veteran teammate, Carlos Munoz, for additional guidance at IMS, all while contending alongside five other rookie drivers for Rookie of the Year honors.

Prior to practice beginning, Veach will interview with legendary television and radio host, Larry King. King and Veach will discuss topics including Zach's advocacy against Distracted Driving and Bullying prevention with Oprah Winfrey's "No Phone Zone" campaign. Additional topics will include, The Great American No BULL Challenge anti-bullying movement with Dr. Oz and his daughter Zoe. He'll also talk about his book, 99 Things Teens Wish They Knew Before Turning 16, of which he'll sign copies of on Wed., May 22 at Indy Reads Book on Mass Ave. in Indianapolis at 7 p.m. EDT. Veach will also talk about his dream of racing in the Indianapolis 500 and presumably drinking the milk, preferably chocolate, following a new deal with Got Chocolate Milk?

Listed among CNN's "Intriguing People" in 2010 and a "Face in the Crowd" by Sports Illustrated in 2012, Veach is part of a new breed of American drivers within INDYCAR. Practice for the Firestone Freedom 100 begins Thurs., May 23 at 9:00 a.m. EDT with qualifications and the race for the Sunoco Pole Award set for 1:15 p.m. EDT later that day. The race will then be contested on Fri., May 24 at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The race is a 40-lap effort with LIVE television coverage provided by NBC Sports Network beginning at 12:00 p.m. EDT. Live timing and scoring can also be found at: http://racecontrol.indycar.com.

In addition to K12, Veach's Firestone Indy Lights effort is also supported by: The Young Marines, ADS IT Solutions, Zakosi Data Backup, Replay XD, OMP, Bell Helmets, Got Chocolate Milk?, and Art Rotondo.

Sanctioned by INDYCAR, the Firestone Indy Lights is one of three series part of the Mazda Road to Indy developmental ladder system, designed to prepare drivers for the IZOD IndyCar Series and Indianapolis 500.
