The “Cooper Tires presents the Atlantic Championship (ACS) powered by Mazda” is a penultimate formula racecar series operated by the ACS Championship Series LLC and sanctioned by the legendary International Motor Sports Association (IMSA).
In 2010 and at the age of 15, Stockdale, Ohio’s Zach Veach will become the youngest driver in the history of the ACS, which will celebrate its 37th season as a top developmental program for open-wheel racing, a necessary stepping-stone to the upper echelon Indy Car Series, and its iconic Indianapolis 500, the world’s largest single-day sporting event.
Competing in 45-minute sprints on many of motor racing’s great road courses, ACS cars, with speeds in excess of 175-mph, have helped vault the careers of stars including past Indianapolis 500 winners Bobby Rahal, Sam Hornish, Jr., Dan Wheldon, Buddy Rice, Danny Sullivan and Jacques Villeneuve, plus Michael Andretti, Danica Patrick, and current competitor and TV star, Frankie Muniz, among others.
A total of twelve races, which begin in March and conclude in October, comprise the points championship throughout the United States, including one event in Canada. The ACS also receives live (and tape delay) television coverage to millions of U.S. and Canadian households through HDNet high-definition programming at select events.
